When you’re ready to build a fence, it’s easy to get caught up in style choices, gate placement, and pet safety — but there’s one step that has to come first: utility locating.
Before any fence installation in Concord, NC, our team always calls to have underground utilities marked. Here in North Carolina, it’s not just the law — it’s the smart thing to do. This simple step helps prevent damage to gas, water, and electrical lines, keeping your property safe and your project on schedule.
What Does “Locating Utilities” Mean?
Before we dig a single post hole, we need to know where underground utilities like gas lines, electric cables, water pipes, and internet lines are buried. Even in your own backyard, those lines might be closer to the surface, or the fence line, than you think.
Why It Matters:
Good News: It’s Free and Easy
Calling 811 (or submitting a ticket online at NC811.org) is free, and it alerts all local utility companies to come out and mark where lines are located — usually with little colored flags or spray paint.
Once the yard is marked, we can safely begin your fence installation without worry.
Our Process at Concord Fence
When you work with us, we’ll always take care of the utility locate request as part of your project.
Private utilities, however, are the homeowners responsibility and these are usually things like irrigation, outdoor lighting, sound systems..etc.
Safety First, Fence Second
We know you’re excited to build your new fence, and so are we. But getting your utilities located first is the responsible step that protects you, your home, and your whole neighborhood.
